Overview
The OpenBlockS 600 is the newest model of the OpenBlockS series. This line of compact and robust embedded Linux servers has proven popular as network monitoring device for telecom carriers and as a base for appliances, with over 50.000 units sold.
With a CPU clock boost to 600 MHz and 1 GB of main memory, the new model offers a big performance upgrade, in an even smaller case.
The new design also allows for an extended ambient temperature range until 55°C.
Performance upgrade
The new OpenBlockS 600 offers more than twice the CPU speed (600 MHz) compared to the old model. The main memory is increased to 1 GB, an increase by a factor of eight.
This performance increase opens the OpenBlockS as a low-cost, energy-saving platform for Web applications.
Preinstalled in the device is the newest release of specialized embedded OS SSD/Linux developed by Plat’Home. Lean and compact, it allows users to harness the full power of the new OpenBlockS model.
Ecologic policy
The OpenBlockS 600 was designed to be friendly to the environment. At only 8 W, it has very low energy consumption, 1/10 of even a low-energy "green" 1U rack server. By replacing servers for network core services like DNS and DHCP with the OpenBlockS, you can reduce energy consumption and thus CO2 emissions by over 90%. (*2)
Even though the Micro server series already has the lowest possible carbon footprint, Plat’Home decided to go one step further by supporting a carbon offset program. This program is planned to set off 1000 metric tons of CO2 in a wind energy project in Tamil Nadu, India. (*3) This will offset the carbon production of 15,000 Micro server units over their 3 year warranty period.
Full support for building appliances
The OpenBlockS 600 was developed with the Open Source idea in mind. To offer the best conditions for appliance development, hardware specifications and the source code of all software is freely available on the Web.
For resellers and OEMs, we offer a wide range of customizations to sell the OpenBlockS under your own brand. These include different case colors, logos, as well as customized firmware and installed software.
